Grambling wins SWAC baseball championship

The Grambling State Tigers claimed the 2024 SWAC Baseball Tournament title on Sunday with a 6-5 win over Jackson State. Gramblings Trevor Hatton led the way with three RBIs on two hits. Kyle Walker and Chris Marcellus had one RBI a piece for Grambling.

Grambling trailed heading into the 9th inning, but Tournament Most Valuable Player Cameron Bufford scored the game winning run on a throwing error by JSU. Grambling’s Javier Martinez allowed one earned run in just over 2 innngs of pitching and was credited with the win.



The win marked Gramblings first SWAC baseball title since 2010 and the first under 3rd year head coach David Pierre. Pierre completed his 14th season with the GSU baseball team. Coach Pierre was staff on Grambling last SWAC baseball championship in 2010. Grambling finished the 2024 regular season at 26-26.
