Morehouse falls to West Alabama in home opener

Morehouse QB Derrach West on the move against West Alabama

Morehouse kicked off their 2022 home football campaign with new turf and new scoreboard against West Alabama. Unfortunately The Maroon Tigers lost a close and contested match up against Division 2 power West Alabama. At the end of evening West Alabama ranaway with a 24-16 victory. Just over 5100 Morehouse & West Alabama fans enjoyed the evening festivities at B.T. Harvey Stadium in Atlanta.

On the opening drive of the game Morehouse went 42 yards in 8 plays topped off with a 23 yard field goal by Olubade Baker. West Alabama struck back with 3 straight scoring drives to take a 21 -3 lead into halftime. As the night fell under the lights Morehouse came to life with a 5 play 53 yard scoring drive to start the 2nd half. The drive was capped by a 30 yard pass from QB Derrach West to WR Keenan Anunay to bring the score to 21-10.

The 4th quarter started with West Alabama leading 21-10. West Alabama got an early field goal in the 4th quarter to go up 24 -10. With two minutes left Morehouse went on a 10 play 75 yard drive to close the gap to 24-16. Morehouse would get one more possession, but failed to capitalise and the final score ended in favorr of West Alabama 24-16.

Morehouse was lead on the ground by Quarterback Derrach West who ran for a game high 84 yards on 15 carries. West also went 17-29 for 156 yards and two touchdowns in the air. Delan Toliver lead Morehouse receivers with 4 receptions for 52 yards. Defensively Daylon West lead Morehouse with 11 total tackles.
